The trade winds are set to return to the Canary Islands over the next few days, expected to be at their strongest on Monday (tomorrow) and especially Tuesday, affecting the western, northern, and southern regions of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The strong winds, with gusts up to 70 km/h, will be accompanied by big waves reaching four metres in height in the northern part of the islands, with effects felt both on the windward and leeward sides.
Tuesday will mark the last day of windy conditions before the African high-pressure system takes hold of the islands, potentially bringing the first heatwave of the year.
Temperatures could soar up to 35 degrees Celsius in some areas, with hot weather lasting at least until next Sunday (April 14th). There's also a possibility of an intense intrusion of calima with suspended dust particles in the air blown over from the Sahara causing haze.
