A video shared by the social media account Tenerife Quejas Vecinales has once again highlighted road safety concerns on the TF-1 motorway in the south of Tenerife.

The footage, recorded yesterday, Tuesday 19th August, shows two separate traffic violations committed just a few kilometres apart, both of which posed serious risks to road users.

In the first incident, a young man was seen riding an electric scooter without a helmet along the hard shoulder in Costa Adeje by San Eugenio. The use of e-scooters on motorways and dual carriageways is strictly prohibited in Spain, and doing so is considered extremely dangerous both for the rider and for passing vehicles.

The second offence involved a motorcyclist dangerously undertaking a vehicle along the hard shoulder near Guaza, heading towards Adeje. This manoeuvre is also illegal under Spanish traffic law and is classified as a serious offence by the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT).

Legal and Safety Implications

Both behaviours are regarded as serious violations of traffic regulations. They carry significant fines and, in the case of the motorcycle offence, could also result in points being deducted from the driver’s licence.

The video has provoked widespread criticism online, with many users condemning the recklessness and lack of responsibility shown by those involved. Neighbourhood associations have reiterated the need for stronger road surveillance and improved signage and traffic education to prevent such dangerous conduct.

The TF-1 is the busiest motorway in the Canary Islands, connecting the capital with the main southern tourist resorts, and is often at the centre of debates over road safety.
