A British man on the run for multiple sexual assaults on a child has been tracked down and arrested in Lanzarote after months on the run from UK authorities. The fugitive vanished before facing trial in Britain for serious sexual violence against a minor.
He was captured in a joint international operation led by Spain’s Guardia Civil, the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), and Nottinghamshire Police. Investigators discovered he had fled to the Canary Islands in an attempt to evade justice.
Acting on a European Arrest Warrant issued by British authorities, officers from the Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police located and detained him in Lanzarote before he could once again slip out of the country.
He has been remanded in prison on the island and now faces extradition to the UK, where he will finally stand trial for the alleged repeated assaults.
Spanish and British police forces have described the arrest as a clear message that offenders cannot find refuge abroad. The Guardia Civil emphasised that international cooperation remains crucial in bringing sexual predators to justice and ensuring they cannot hide behind borders.
