A British man wanted by the UK authorities, arrested in Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife, now faces going back to the UK to face charges of large-scale drug trafficking and money laundering as the Spanish courts have approved his extradition order.
He is linked to the trafficking of 12 kilograms of Class A drugs, including heroin, morphine, and liquid ecstasy, along with one kilogram of cocaine. He is also accused of laundering £709,500 and obstructing the course justice, offences that could lead to him getting eight life sentences in the UK.
He was arrested on 21st May of this year under an international warrant issued on 13th November 2023 by the UK courts, and has been held in custody ever since. However, the Spanish National Court has approved the extradition request and will proceed with it once they receive guarantees from the UK that the legal requirements and sentencing conditions will be upheld.
The fugitive was under investigation by the UK's Northeast Regional Organised Crime Unit (NEROCU). Evidence from encrypted messages proved his involvement in large-scale cocaine distribution with financial transactions totalling hundreds of thousands of pounds.
