Emergency services in Lanzarote have confirmed that the body of a 62-year-old man was found on Saturday morning floating motionless in the water at the marina in Arrecife. The discovery was made shortly before 9:00am, near one of the pontoons, after a passerby spotted the body and raised the alarm.

According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES), the call was received at 8:55am, prompting an immediate response from several emergency units.

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene, but despite their rapid arrival, they could only certify that the man had already passed away.

Firefighters were also deployed to assist with recovering the body from the water, ensuring the area was safe and secured for investigators. Officers from the National Police attended the scene shortly afterwards and have taken charge of the investigation and official proceedings.

At this stage, no details have been released regarding the identity of the deceased or the possible cause of death. Early indications suggest that there were no immediate signs of violence, but a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact circumstances.

The discovery has caused shock in the local marina community, where the man is believed to have been known by several regular visitors and boat owners. Authorities have expressed their condolences to the man’s family and have reminded the public to report any unusual activity near ports or marinas to ensure safety at sea.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available from the police investigation.
