Tenerife South Airport experienced a temporary disruption yesterday morning (Tuesday) following a bird strike with a plane. The collision happened during an approach for landing, prompting immediate safety measures to be implemented by Air Traffic Controllers and the crew of the plane.
The incident was reported by Air Traffic Controllers on X (Twitter), who confirmed that the bird strike necessitated an immediate inspection of the runway. This was a precautionary measure that led to the temporary suspension of planes landing to ensure the runway's safety and prevent any potential hazards from debris.
The disruption caused delays for several international flights, including two arriving from Dublin and Newcastle, as well as an inter-island flight as the runway inspection took place.
Following the inspection, which confirmed the runway was safe for use, normal operations resumed. No further incidents were reported, and the airport quickly returned to its regular schedule.
While the bird strike caused temporary delays and inconvenience, the prompt response by air traffic controllers and airport staff ensured that safety was maintained, and normal operations were swiftly restored at Tenerife South Airport.
