A bar owner has died after being stabbed while closing his business in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in what police are treating as a serious violent crime.
The victim was a man aged around 70, who was attacked late on Sunday night in the Schamann area of the city, on Calle Don Pedro Infinito. He had just finished work and was heading towards his car when he was assaulted with a knife.
Emergency services were alerted at around 11:30pm after reports of a man lying unconscious in the street. Local Police officers were the first to arrive, where they found the victim in a critical condition. He reportedly collapsed near his vehicle and suffered cardiac arrest.
Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) provided urgent medical assistance before transferring him by ambulance to hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, the ambulance was escorted by police to speed up the journey and ensure he received treatment as quickly as possible.
Despite efforts to save him, the man died in hospital yesterday afternoon (Monday).
The National Police homicide unit has launched an investigation and is actively searching for the person responsible for the attack.
