The Guardia Civil have arrested a 48-year-old man for committing four burglaries at a holiday apartment complex in Morro Jable, Fuerteventura, where he stole money, electronic devices, jewellery, and other personal belongings from various rooms. The suspect gained access to the apartments by climbing into them while the guests were asleep.
The investigation began after multiple complaints were filed between late April and August 2024, by holidaymakers who reported that their rooms had been broken into during the night and that burglars had stolen items such as mobile phones, watches, and money.
The Investigation Unit of the Morro Jable Guardia Civil conducted a thorough inquiry, as the crimes followed a similar pattern and occurred in the same area. Based on the evidence gathered, the authorities launched surveillance at the complex that had been targeted.
Through video footage and witness photo identifications, the police were able to identify the suspect, who was apprehended, preventing further crimes in the area.
The detainee has a history of similar crimes, including two prior arrests in the same locality. In June 2023, he was caught in the act of attempting to break into a hotel room, and again in March of this year for a similar offence.
The man has now been placed at the disposal of the Court of Puerto del Rosario, while the Guardia Civil continues its investigation to recover the stolen items, with further arrests not being ruled out.
1. Secure All Entry Points: Always close doors, windows, and balconies, especially if they are easily accessible. Keep a close eye on your belongings when at the beach or hotel pool areas.
2. Use Hotel Safes: Store valuables like jewellery, watches, keys, and electronics in the safe provided in your hotel room. If a safe is not available, take other security measures to keep your belongings secure.
3. Monitor Your Possessions: Keep your bags closed and close by at all times, especially in common areas like the reception, restaurants, and pools, and if out in public streets.
