The Partido Popular (PP) in Lanzarote has once again called on AENA to urgently address the state of neglect in the gardens and exterior areas of César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, that give a disgraceful first impression to visitors arriving on the island.

Astrid Pérez, president of the PP kin Lanzarote, described the situation as “inadmissible” for a destination that is both a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the Canary Islands’ busiest tourist gateways.

She criticised the “shameful image” presented to thousands of visitors and residents arriving every day, noting unkempt gardens, dead plants, untrimmed palm trees, broken paving, weeds, damaged drains and accumulated rubbish.

“This is not just about image, but about responsibility,” Pérez stressed. “We cannot allow the first impression of Lanzarote to be that of a dirty, poorly maintained environment. It is not worthy of an island that depends on tourism and prides itself on environmental care and protection of the landscape.”

The PP has warned that the situation has been worsening for months, affecting the surroundings of both terminals. Pérez confirmed that the party will use every avenue, in both Congress and the Senate, to demand that Spain’s Ministry of Transport and the central government act immediately to clean and restore the airport’s exterior areas.

“Lanzarote deserves a modern, clean and well-maintained infrastructure that reflects the quality of our destination,” Pérez concluded. “This level of neglect is unprecedented, and we demand urgent action.”
