Over the last week or so, the Canary Islands have experienced warm temperatures for the time of year, and more recently haze, in most areas.
However, according to the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET), a significant change in the weather is set to arrive by Sunday, with noticeable effects expected next week.
A large trough will approach from the Atlantic over the weekend, facilitating the development of a deep storm system near the Azores. This weather system, unusually positioned further south than normal, will gradually move eastward towards the Canary Islands.
By Monday, the storm is expected to reach its peak phase before starting to weaken later into the week.
This storm will influence the Canary Islands' weather, bringing rain, expected to start on Tuesday, which will initially affect the southern regions of the islands, followed by northern areas on Wednesday.
By midweek, the storm will retreat northwards, leaving the area of the Canary Islands and we will return to warmer drier weather again. However, the storm’s subsequent trajectory remains uncertain, with different scenarios under consideration.
