The Canary Islands are set to experience a significant change in weather conditions this weekend, according to the latest forecast from the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
The return of the trade winds will bring varying weather patterns across the archipelago, with a notable chance of rain and fluctuating temperatures.
For today, Saturday, AEMET are forecasting mostly cloudy skies in the northern and northeastern regions of the islands. Some clear spells may occur during the central hours of the day, particularly in the north. However, light and occasional rain showers are expected, especially towards the evening. Other areas will enjoy mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies.
Temperature-wise, little change is expected along the coasts, though slight decreases are anticipated in inland areas. The exceptions will be Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where a slight increase in maximum temperatures is expected. Across the islands, temperatures will range from highs of 30°C in Tenerife to lows of 19°C on the island of El Hierro.
Winds will blow moderately from the northeast, with stronger intervals expected in the southeastern and extreme western regions, as well as on the mountain peaks of the larger islands. In these areas, gusts could exceed 70 km/h.
As for the sea, the wind will also blow from the northeast, reaching force 4 or 5, and occasionally intensifying to force 6 or even 7 in the central islands (Tenerife and Gran Canaria).
The east coasts of the islands will generally experience choppy to very rough seas, and a northern swell of 1 to 2 metres in height is also expected.
