A 4.8 magnitude earthquake is recorded today in Canarian waters

The National Geographic Institute (IGN) has detected an earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on the mbLg scale in waters near to the Canary Islands. They recorded it at 1:45pm on this afternoon (Tuesday), at latitude 27.0613 and -14.4628, according to an official press release.

People living in the southeast of Gran Canaria have been posting on social media that they heard and felt something at that time, which the IGN have now confirmed what it was.

In addition, at 5:10am this morning, the IGN recorded another earthquake of magnitude 1.8 mbLg at a depth of 8 kilometres, in the sea between the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Also, they are continuing to detect rumblings in La Palma, with the biggest at 2.2 magnitude at 11.34am today a depth of 13 kilometres in the municipality of Fuencaliente.
