The Lanzarote Cabildo has approved nearly €100,000 in subsidies to modernise the island’s taxi fleet, with funds aimed at making vehicles both more efficient and more accessible. From a total budget of €260,000, €87,000 has been allocated to support the purchase of lower-emission, energy-efficient vehicles.
A further €6,000 has been granted for two taxis adapted for people with reduced mobility.
Cabildo president Oswaldo Betancort said the move represented “a firm step towards advancing and modernising our public mobility, adapted to the needs of Lanzarote’s population and the wider Canary Islands.” He also stressed the island’s ongoing commitment to renewing and updating its fleet.
Transport councillor Miguel Ángel Jiménez said the grants will match the costs shown by applicants and are designed to encourage a more sustainable and efficient taxi service.
Beneficiaries are required to submit original invoices, proof of payment, and photographs showing the vehicle with its official identification sticker to the Transport and Mobility Department. The deadline for providing this documentation is 30 working days from the publication of the final decision.
The Cabildo confirmed that all paperwork, including forms, receipts, and a final report, must be sent through its online portal.
Authorities say these measures are part of a wider strategy to cut emissions and improve accessibility across Lanzarote’s transport network.
