A four-year-old boy is in critical condition after being rescued from a hotel pool in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote showing signs of drowning and in cardiac arrest, according to a report from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident happened at approximately 12:25pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday). Hotel lifeguards were the first to respond, retrieving the young child from the water while he was unconscious and in need of medical assistance.
Before the arrival of the Emergency Services, a hotel guest, who identified himself as a doctor, assessed the child confirming that he was in cardiac arrest, so began resuscitation efforts, and successfully managed to revive the young boy.
When paramedics arrived, they stabilised and then transported him, still in critical condition, to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital for urgent treatment.
Local police and Guardia Civil officers also arrived at the scene to prepare the necessary reports of the incident.
