Will Gran Canaria move to Level 4 today?

The Governing Council is meeting today, a day earlier than expected, to review and assess the epidemiological data in Gran Canaria because the increase in infections and hospital admissions place the island in level 4 of health alert, and they could very easily move them up a level this afternoon.

The Island has all its transmission indicators and incidence rates at extreme risk, and hospital admissions and ICU occupancy due to COVID at high risk, data that, with the new requirements established by the Ministry of Health are the parameters being focused on, and are at a sufficient level to see a rise in alert level.

For several days, Gran Canaria surpassed Tenerife in the number of new infections. Yesterday Tenerife added 3,573 cases against 2,105 in Gran Canaria, from 7,300 tests in Tenerife with 49.6% that tested positive, and 5,770 in Gran Canaria with a positivity rate of 36.6%.
