A man has died in a horrific accident after being struck by several vehicles on the TF-1 motorway in Tenerife. The tragedy unfolded on Sunday night near El Porís de Abona, in the municipality of Arico, as traffic headed south.
According to the police report, the victim had climbed out of his broken-down car, which was parked on the hard shoulder, when he was hit by a lorry. In a devastating chain of events, several other vehicles then struck him moments later.
Emergency services raced to the scene after receiving an alert at 10.31pm. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the roadside.
Traffic officers from the Guardia Civil attended to control the flow of vehicles and launched an investigation into exactly how the fatal collision occurred.
The crash caused severe delays on the TF-1 heading towards the south airport, with lengthy tailbacks. Meanwhile, separate roadworks in the opposite direction towards Santa Cruz de Tenerife only added to the chaos, leaving motorists facing long waits well into the night.
