Canary Islands start vaccination of Group 9: people aged 50 to 59

The vaccination campaign against Covid-19 is progressing in the Canary Islands at a rapid rate, and the professionals of the Health Service (SCS) have already begun to vaccinate people under 60 years of age who make up the ninth group of the National Vaccination Strategy, those born between 1962 and 1970 inclusive.

This has been confirmed by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, which also specified that in Tenerife the appointments began on Monday, in Gran Canaria yesterday, and in the other islands a few days before.

However, the inoculation of groups 3 and 6 continues to be a priority, which are non front-line health and social care personnel, and professionals with essential functions for society, including teachers and the police forces, so it won’t be for a few days until they increase the number of members of group 9 called for vaccination.

It should also be noted that the Ministry of Health wants anyone over 60 in Gran Canaria and Tenerife who has not yet got an appointment to go and get vaccinated this weekend, and those over 60 who aren’t registered in the health system, to go to their nearest centre to be included in the ‘vaccination list’.

According to the latest data the SCS have administered 781,884 doses so far, which is 85.9% of those received (887,010 units), and 257,792 people have been immunised with either both doses, or the Janssen single dose vaccine.
