Tenerife is the second most searched holiday destination in the UK

According to TravelSupermarket, Crete is the most sought after destination in January by British tourists for a classic seven-night package holiday between May 1st and October 31st 2021. Tenerife claims second place and Mallorca is third for all searches and requests for holidays of this type.

In all of three them, the holiday prices are lower compared to the last two years, with Crete typically 10% cheaper than before, Tenerife 13%, and 9% in the case of Mallorca. Overall the biggest drop in prices is for the Algarve, in Portugal, where they are reduced by 54% compared to January 2020.

TravelSupermarket attributes in its report that the collapse of Portugal as a destination in the first half of January, is due to news of a new variant of Covid found in Brazil which has affected Portugal, as both countries are not recommended for travel from the United Kingdom.

The full list of the most popular destinations, after the top three, continues with the Maldives, Dubai, Barbados, Paris, Santorini, Cancun and Las Vegas, showing that interest in destinations both short and long haul is still there.

Most searches are carried out for holidays in May, June and July, while the interest in long distance travel is later in the year in September or October.
