The Supreme Prosecutor's Office endorses a curfew in municipalities with high infections

Following the Canary Islands Governments appeal to the Supreme Court for a curfew in islands at levels 3 and 4 of health alert, the Prosecutor's Office confirmed a favourable report last night endorsing the application of the curfew in municipalities with high infections, specifically those with an incidence rate of 154 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 7 days or above.

By endorsing a curfew in municipalities, and not by alert level, means that it could be implemented in any municipality on any island regardless of alert level if there is an increase in cases and an increase in the incidence rate.

However, the final answer to the application of the curfew must be given by the Supreme Court itself after studying the appeal and the Prosecutor's Office report, which will rule on the measure before next Friday (July 30th), with a definitive answer.

Although it may seem strange to us that they have said by municipality, because of borders, this is a usual thing in Spain due to having defined metropolitan and rural areas, and it has already been applied in other areas of mainland Spain in this way.

According to the latest data these are the municipalities in the Canary Islands that have an IA7 that currently exceeds 154, and would have a curfew from 00.30h to 06.00h if the ruling confirms it’s application in this way:
