An hour less curfew tonight! Clocks go forward at 1am
At 1.00am tonight the clocks go forward one hour to signify the start of summer time. This means we get one hour less curfew tonight as at 1am it will jump forward to 2am, so only seven hours instead of eight!
From tomorrow it will get lighter later in the morning and sunset will be later giving us more hours of sunlight than we already have, although this does sometimes affect people’s sleeping pattern, particularly in children and the elderly, when it first comes into effect.
This time change is carried out in all the countries of the European Union, and is made to favour energy savings by taking advantage of the extra hours of light in spring and curbing, in some way, excessive electricity consumption.
However, its days are numbered as in 2018 the European Commission put forward the possibility of suppressing them and keeping a single hour throughout the year. The deadline for each country to decide its future will end next week on April 1st, the date on which each member of the EU will decide which hours will benefit them the most, and it will be confirmed whether or not it is the end of summer and winter hours.
