Covid Certificate to be used for national travellers arriving in the Canaries from Spain

The Ministry of Health has extended the requirement for screening until September 30th, when entering the Canary Islands from mainland Spain or the Balearics via ports or airports. However, whereas previously the requirement was for a negative test result, national travellers can now use their Digital Covid Certificate for travel to the archipelago, which shows vaccination status, any test results and whether the holder has passed the virus in the last six months.

This extension will be effective from Sunday (August 1st) and constitutes, in the words of the Minister of Health, Blas Trujillo, "a necessary measure to continue with the control and containment of imported cases of coronavirus in travellers from other parts of Spain, while we continue with vaccination.”

Screening through diagnostic tests for passengers entering the Canary Islands from mainland Spain came into effect on December 18th and has proven to be an effective measure to control the pandemic. So far in July, 96% of national travellers who arrived in the Canary Islands have met the requirements of this standard.

It is important to remember, that self-diagnostic tests that are now available in Chemists, are NOT eligible for travel or entry into the interiors of hospitality venues, gyms and cinemas, it must be a test at a licensed test centre which will submit your results so that they appear on the certificate via the health service.
