The Canary Islands register 45.2°C today, the highest temperature in all of Spain

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has registered the highest temperature of the day in the whole of Spain in the Canary Islands this afternoon. At 3.40pm thermometers read 45.2°C in Tasarte, in the Gran Canaria municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolás, while the lowest temperature in the Canary Islands of 17.6°C was recorded at the Izaña station, in the Teide National Park, at 5:30 this morning.

This highest temperature in Tenerife today was recorded at the Tenerife South Airport weather station at 12.10pm this afternoon of 44.2°C with high winds and haze synonymous of a calima from the Sahara that is the cause of these extreme temperatures.

The next highest temperatures today are:
43.5°C recorded at the Maspalomas station at 12:40pm.
42.4°C in Lomo Pedro Alfonso at 2:00pm.
41.8°C in San Bartolomé de Tirajana at 1:20pm.

In Tenerife today there was a difference in temperatures of 12 degrees from the south airport to Los Cristianos, as it was a much fresher day on the southwest coast of the island at a ‘chilly’ 32.5°C, as the calima continues to move west across the archipelago.

AEMET has extended the red warning for high temperatures in the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro today, while the Government of the Canary Islands has declared the maximum alert for maximum temperatures in these islands, and maintains the situation of alert in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote even though the extreme temperatures seem to have now passed over these two islands.
