The Canary Islands have today registered the two lowest temperatures in Spain, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). The Izaña station is at the head of the coldest places in the country this Friday, with -4.4ºC, while Roque de los Muchachos in La Palma is in second position with -3.7ºC. In third place is Ourense in the northwest of Spain, where the temperature has dropped to -1ºC.
TENERIFE:
From six o'clock in the afternoon yesterday, the Cabildo de Tenerife proceeded to close the access roads to the Teide National Park, both through La Esperanza and La Orotava, a measure that will continue until Monday. The main reason is snow, which started early yesterday morning in Teide National Park.
The drop in temperatures that has brought the trough to the Archipelago has also allowed the presence of hail in relatively low points such as Tegueste or Santa Úrsula. In addition, the intense rain has caused landslides on some roads in Tenerife, such as Las Carboneras.
LA PALMA:
The peaks of La Palma are once again dressed in white with the arrival of the Atlantic trough. An intense hailstorm, registered at around 10:00am yesterday, turned white in the surroundings of Roque de Los Muchachos. A hail that would be a prelude to the snow that began to fall in the afternoon.
In principle, snow is expected in the high areas and peaks from about 1,500 metres of altitude but today, the snow level could fall to 1,300 or 1,400 metres, according to the Cabildo.
