Covid update: The downward trend in the Canary Islands is slowing down

The latest data from the Ministry of Health shows that although incidence rates are still decreasing, the downward trend of the data for the spread of the coronavirus is slowing down in the Canary Islands, with cases creeping up and some incidence rates staying the same, as highlighted by Lanzarote.

The drops are quick at the moment because they are being compared to high numbers 7 and 14 days ago, but a week later when the data is now compared with that lower data, the decrease rapidly slows and, in some cases, is going back up again.

There have been 249 new cases detected in the last 24 hours, the highest number since last Friday, with 131 in Tenerife, 67 in Gran Canaria, 25 in Fuerteventura, 14 in Lanzarote, 6 in La Palma, and 3 in both La Gomera and El Hierro. There have also been two deaths reported in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria and La Oliva in Fuerteventura.

You will see by the data below that active cases have reduced due to there being more people discharged compared to new infections, and that some incidence rates in particular islands have increased. The good news is that the IA7 for the islands has dropped again to 81.39, and the IA14 is now below 200 at 196.24 per 100,000 inhabitants.
