A woman has died after being pulled from the water in cardiac arrest at Caleta de Fuste in Fuerteventura, shortly after 1.00 pm on Tuesday. The emergency services received an alert that a woman had been rescued from the sea, and she was already receiving first aid from a beach lifeguard at the time.
The emergency services were immediately dispatched, but despite continued attempts at resuscitation, paramedics were unable to revive her and sadly confirmed her death at the scene.
The area of Caleta de Fuste is a popular resort for both residents and tourists, has lifeguard services in place, but incidents of this nature just go to show the importance of following safety advice when swimming in open waters.
Just last week, a five-year-old girl was rescued from a hotel pool in Fuerteventura after suffering cardiac arrest. Thanks to the swift action of lifeguards and SUC paramedics, her pulse was restored, and she was later transferred to Gran Canaria for specialist treatment.
Earlier this month, in Tenerife, a holidaymaker had to be revived after a near-drowning at Los Cristianos beach. Lifeguards and emergency services managed to stabilise him before transferring him to hospital, highlighting once again how quickly these situations can turn serious, even in supervised swimming areas
