Visitors to Puerto del Rosario can now use a new network of smart information points to discover more about the history, heritage and traditions of Fuerteventura’s capital and surrounding areas.

The Canary Islands Government has invested more than €38,000 in the project, which has seen 23 tourist information points installed across the municipality. Each one features QR codes that visitors can scan with their mobile phones to access information about the location.

The scheme was completed in three months in collaboration with Puerto del Rosario Council and is designed to make it easier for tourists and residents to explore lesser-known parts of the municipality as well as popular attractions in the capital.

Twelve of the information points have been installed in inland villages and rural areas, including Guisguey, El Time, Los Estancos, La Asomada, Tetir, La Matilla, Tefía, Las Parcelas, Tesjuate, Casillas del Ángel, Los Llanos de la Concepción and Ampuyenta.

Along the coast, they can be found in Puerto Lajas, Playa Blanca, El Matorral and Los Molinos.

Several have also been installed at popular locations in Puerto del Rosario itself, including the main church, the lime kiln museum, municipal market, La Molina square, Los Pozos beach and the seawater swimming pool in El Charco.

Canary Islands Tourism Minister Jéssica de León said the €38,146 investment forms part of efforts to modernise tourist facilities and to give visitors greater access to information about the islands' culture, traditions, heritage and history.

The project also aims to encourage visitors to explore beyond the main tourist areas, using digital technology to provide information directly at places of historical or cultural interest.

Tourists visiting Puerto del Rosario and its surrounding villages can access the information simply by scanning the QR codes displayed on the new signs with a smartphone.
