A woman in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been arrested for allegedly attempting to kill her one-year-old daughter and her partner, who has also been detained on charges of domestic violence.
The incident unfolded following a heated altercation between the couple, during which she reportedly wielded a 25-centimetre knife, and he used a multi-purpose pocket knife.
According to a report from the National Police, the incident took place on Sunday morning (January 5th), in their family home located in the Tamaraceite neighbourhood of the city.
A distress call was received via the 091 emergency line reporting a violent domestic dispute involving bladed weapons. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man in a highly agitated state with visible knife wounds, pleading for help. He alleged that his partner had threatened to stab their baby and had previously attempted to strangle the child.
Discovery Inside the Home
When the police entered the property, they found the woman sitting in the living room, holding the child. She appeared visibly distressed but showed no immediate signs of having harmed the baby. Beside her, officers discovered a large knife, and on the table nearby was a multi-tool knife that she claimed her partner had used during the argument.
The injured man was taken to the Doctor Negrín Hospital to receive treatment for his wounds, and evaluations from medical personnel determined that neither the woman nor the baby required significant treatment.
Arrests and Legal Proceedings
After hearing both accounts, the police arrested the woman on suspicion of attempted murder, and the man on charges of domestic violence. Their one-year-old daughter has been placed under the care of her maternal grandmother as authorities proceed with their investigation.
