The video of a young woman almost swept out to sea in Tenerife whilst trying to get the ‘perfect’ holiday photo, has gone viral highlighting the danger she put herself in, the power of the sea, and the reason why the authorities warn against this type of action.
Despite the adverse conditions and powerful waves, the woman positioned herself on a sea wall at the coast of Mesa del Mar in Tacoronte, wanting to get the perfect shot as a wave crashed over her.
However, she got much more than she bargained for when the force of the waves knocked her over and started to drag her into the water and onto the rocky area below.
Fortunately, her partner, who was the one taking the photo, managed to grab her arm and pull her to safety back onto the sea wall. The woman sustained several injuries in the incident, particularly to her arms and legs, and the couple are getting widespread criticism for their reaction to the incident referring to it as a "tragicomedy" and saying that it was worth it because the photo turned out "epic".
Many users on social media have condemned their recklessness as it highlights the risks people will take trying to get the perfect photo and social media fame, as this incident could easily have ended in tragedy.
It also perfectly highlights why the authorities warn against this type of behaviour, especially when there are currently active warnings for dangerous sea conditions and recommendations to avoid rocky areas and sea walls.
