The Guardia Civil has arrested two foreign nationals, aged 27 and 37, accused of violently assaulting and robbing a tourist at a shopping centre in Puerto Rico, located in the south of Gran Canaria.
The incident, which occurred on the night of November 13th, involved the theft of personal valuable items, including a watch worth €10,000.
According to the Guardia Civil, the victim reported being attacked while enjoying an evening out. The suspects took advantage of the darkness and the tourist's intoxicated state to corner and assault him, causing him to fall to the ground.
During the assault, they stole several valuable items from him, including his watch, a pair of sunglasses, a wallet containing €900 and £400 in cash, and a mobile phone, before fleeing the scene.
After the robbery, the disoriented victim wandered the shopping centre until an employee from a nearby bar retrieved his mobile phone and wallet, which had been left on the floor, though the cash had been taken.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the report, the Guardia Civil's Investigation Unit in Puerto Rico launched an inquiry into the incident. Their efforts included reviewing CCTV footage from the shopping centre and conducting other investigative measures.
The victim’s detailed account of the event proved crucial in identifying the suspects' modus operandi and confirming their involvement in the crime.
On November 26th, the Guardia Civil located and apprehended the suspects in the town of Puerto Rico. After completing their investigative procedures, the detainees were brought before the Court of Instruction in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
This incident highlights the ongoing vigilance of the authorities in ensuring the safety of residents and visitors in the Canary Islands, particularly in areas popular with tourists. The Guardia Civil emphasizes the importance of reporting crimes promptly to facilitate swift action and resolution.
