Tenerife is getting ready for a bank holiday this weekend, the first since Christmas and New Year, and before the Carnival celebrations get into full swing. Residents and visitors to the island, depending on their location, will have the opportunity to enjoy several bank holidays and lots of festivities in quick succession.
This is the first long weekend of the year as the island celebrates the festival of the Virgen de Candelaria, which takes place on Friday (February 2nd). In total, the Canary Islands will have 11 public holidays this year, some of which are regional and others national. Furthermore, each island has its own distinctive public holiday, and in Tenerife, it is the Virgen de Candelaria.

9th September: The Monday following the feast of Nuestra Señora del Pino in Gran Canaria
16th September: Feast Day of Our Lady of the Volcanoes in Lanzarote and La Graciosa
20th September: Feast Day of Our Lady of La Peña in Fuerteventura
24th September: Feast Day of Our Lady of the Kings on El Hierro
7th October: Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Gomera
