After the busy summer season, Mercadona will once again adjust its opening hours, ending the extended schedule that was introduced to cope with the influx of visitors during the peak summer holiday months.
From 1st September, the supermarket chain will return to its standard timetable across Spain, including the Canary Islands.
Since late June, Mercadona branches in areas with the highest tourist activity, such as Andalusia, Valencia, Catalonia, the Canary Islands, Murcia, Galicia, and the Balearic Islands, have been staying open until 10:00pm from Monday to Saturday. In addition, around 300 stores also opened on Sundays with reduced hours, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, to meet the surge in demand while still allowing staff time to rest.
This strategy is not unusual for Mercadona. The company regularly adapts its schedules during periods of greater consumer activity, and often increases its temporary workforce to guarantee service quality.
However, with the return to normality, Mercadona supermarkets will now close at 9:30pm from Monday to Saturday, and will no longer open on Sundays or public holidays. This measure will apply across all of the chain’s 1,602 stores nationwide.
For those who wish to check the exact hours of their local store, Mercadona recommends using the store locator available on its official website or mobile app, where up-to-date details for each branch are published.
