The Canary Islands are set for a major tourism boost after TUI announced dozens of additional flights to the archipelago in response to soaring demand for sunshine holidays.

A total of 68 extra TUI fly flights will operate in April, offering around 10,000 additional seats from major German airports including Hannover, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich. The extra capacity will serve several Canary Islands, including Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, alongside other popular destinations such as Mallorca, Crete and Rhodes.

The move reflects a growing trend among holidaymakers choosing familiar and reliable destinations, with Spain’s Canary Islands continuing to rank among the most sought-after options for European travellers.

Benjamin Jacobi, CEO of TUI Germany, said the company is acting quickly to meet demand by increasing flight availability at short notice. He highlighted the advantage of TUI operating its own airline, allowing it to respond flexibly to changing booking patterns and rapidly add capacity where needed.

He also warned that demand is already strong for both Spain and Greece ahead of the summer season, urging customers not to delay booking their holidays.

Spain and Greece are currently tied as the most popular destinations for summer 2026, according to TUI’s latest booking data, with the company’s share of the European holiday market rising to nearly 75%.

In total, TUI fly now operates more than 560 weekly flights, offering around three million seats to leading holiday destinations across the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde and the Red Sea.

The latest expansion is expected to bring a fresh wave of visitors to the Canary Islands just ahead of the busy summer season, providing a welcome boost for the local tourism sector.
