A 27-year-old man has been arrested by the Guardia Civil in connection with drug trafficking, cultivation, and production of cannabis after officers uncovered a large-scale marijuana operation in Las Rosas Viejas, in the municipality of Agüimes, Gran Canaria.
The investigation began in December, when police received reports of a strong, persistent smell emanating from a hermetically sealed greenhouse measuring approximately 400 square metres on a finca in the village. The odour was consistent with the presence of Cannabis, prompting an official inquiry.
Photographic Evidence and Dangerous Dogs
Over the course of the investigation, officers confirmed that the property was managed by the suspect, who has not been publicly named. Photographic evidence obtained during surveillance confirmed the presence of around 160 cannabis plants, all in their final stages of maturation.
The site was also guarded by three dogs classified as potentially dangerous, which were left unrestrained to protect the illicit crop.
Operation Concludes with Arrest and Seizure
According to an official press release, the operation concluded on 23rd April, when officers carried out a search and seizure warrant. Inside the greenhouse, they not only found the fully grown plants, but also evidence of a structured production and distribution operation.
Among the items seized were:
The detainee, along with the case file, was placed at the disposal of Investigative Court No. 3 of Telde, which is currently handling the proceedings.
This incident adds to a growing list of drug-related arrests in the Canary Islands, where police authorities continue to step up efforts against organised cultivation and distribution networks.
