The fire brigade were called to an incident this morning (Wednesday) when a school bus caught fire in the Los Realejos area of Tenerife. The bus, which was scheduled to transport school children to CEIP Palo Blanco, caught fire before starting its route, meaning no pupils were on board at the time, and fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
Initially, the bus driver and an attendant tried to put out the fire but weren’t able to, so firefighters and the Forest Brigade (BRIFOR) took over when they arrived acting quickly to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby forested areas.
The Local Police of Los Realejos and the National Police temporarily closed the road while BRIFOR teams continued cooling operations to stop it from re-igniting.
The bus was completely destroyed in the blaze, and a replacement service was arranged to take the pupils to school.
