The Tenerife Cabildo has approved an 18-million-euro fund specifically for municipal projects aimed at improving, rehabilitating, and optimising essential infrastructures in tourist areas, called the Tourism Regeneration Strategy (Pier).
Funds are available to the local councils in tourist areas from now until 2027 for landscaping, pedestrianisation, cycle lanes, rehabilitation on pavements and walkway, shaded seating areas, and the creation of plazas, parks, and viewpoints.
The goal is to have improved and maintained areas for both tourists and residents, as well as to restore the landscape and identity of the destinations on the island.
One of the municipalities in the south of Tenerife that hopes to benefit from this fund is San Miguel de Abona, whose mayor, Arturo González, expressed his satisfaction with the announcement: “We are pleased that the Cabildo has heeded our requests to undertake more actions in our tourist areas. This will further enhance the destination's value, quality, and competitiveness.”
This investment is expected to significantly bolster the attractiveness and functionality of tourist zones in San Miguel de Abona, promoting a more enjoyable and sustainable environment for visitors and locals.
