Ryanair sues passenger for €15,000 after flight diverted due to disruptive behaviour

Ryanair are taking legal action against a passenger whose disruptive behaviour forced the diversion of flight FR7124 from Dublin to Lanzarote on April 9th 2024, by filing a claim in the Irish Courts for more than €15,000 in damages to cover the costs incurred due to the incident.

The flight was diverted to Porto, causing significant inconvenience and expenses.

In a statement, Ryanair described the passenger's conduct as "completely unacceptable," noting its impact on the journey of other travellers who were merely looking to enjoy their trip with family or friends.

The airline reaffirmed its strict zero-tolerance policy toward disruptive passenger behaviour, pledging to continue decisive measures to protect the safety and travel experience for their customers.

A Ryanair spokesperson revealed that the passenger's actions resulted in approximately €15,000 in additional costs, including accommodation, passenger care expenses, and landing fees. "We have now initiated civil proceedings to recover these costs caused by this individual," the spokesperson confirmed.

The airline emphasized that this legal action is part of its broader strategy to discourage misconduct aboard its flights. "This is just one of the many consequences passengers face when they disrupt flights," Ryanair stated. "We hope this action will deter others from engaging in similar behaviour, ensuring a respectful and comfortable environment for both passengers and crew."
