A Binter flight heading to Gran Canaria was forced to make an unscheduled diversion after a passenger became seriously unwell, suffering repeated vomiting before reportedly fainting on board.
The flight was travelling from Logroño in mainland Spain to Gran Canaria when the passenger’s condition deteriorated, prompting the crew to activate the airline’s emergency procedures.
Given the circumstances, the decision was taken to divert the aircraft to Jerez Airport in Andalusia, where the passenger could receive assistance.
According to information confirmed by Spanish air traffic controllers, the man had suffered an episode of vomiting severe enough that he eventually lost consciousness during the flight.
Fortunately, his condition had improved by the time the aircraft landed in Jerez and he was reportedly able to leave the plane unaided.
The diversion temporarily interrupted the journey to the Canary Islands while the aircraft remained on the ground in Jerez.
Once clearance was given for the aircraft to depart, the flight continued its journey to Gran Canaria.
Medical incidents involving passengers are among the circumstances that can lead flight crews to request a diversion, particularly when a passenger’s condition requires assessment or treatment that cannot safely wait until the aircraft reaches its scheduled destination.
