The Canary Islands will enjoy another warm day this Friday, 16th October, with temperatures still above average for the time of year reaching around 30°C in some areas.
There will be sunny spells across the main holiday islands, although conditions will vary between the coast and higher ground. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura look largely dry, while anyone planning a day out in Tenerife should allow for some rain at altitude.
Light calima, the fine dust carried from the Sahara, may leave a slight haze, particularly at higher elevations in Gran Canaria and the eastern islands.
TENERIFE
Cloud will come and go across the island, with more persistent low cloud in northern and north-eastern areas early and late in the day.
There will be brighter spells elsewhere, but showers are possible around the mountains. The local forecast for the south of the island also shows a chance of light rain during the morning and afternoon, so visitors in Costa Adeje and the surrounding resorts should be prepared for a change in conditions.
General temperatures are forecast to reach 29°C in the south, with a minimum of 22°C.
GRAN CANARIA
Low cloud is expected around Las Palmas and the north, especially at the beginning and end of the day.
Southern areas, including Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés, should have more sunshine, with some high cloud and a slight dusty haze.
It will remain warm, although temperatures will vary with altitude. The forecast for the inland town of San Bartolomé de Tirajana reaches 29°C; this should not be confused with a specific beach temperature for Maspalomas.
LANZAROTE
Some early low cloud is possible in the north, followed by sunny spells and patches of high cloud.
For visitors in Puerto del Carmen, Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca, the overall outlook is for a warm day with little prospect of rain. Light calima may soften the views.
Tías is forecast to reach 29°C, with a minimum of 21°C. The breeze is expected to freshen towards the evening.
FUERTEVENTURA
Early cloud should give way to plenty of brightness, with high cloud passing overhead during the day.
The outlook is largely dry, making it a favourable day for exploring the island or spending time along the coast around Corralejo, Caleta de Fuste and the southern resorts.
Antigua is forecast to reach 30°C, with a minimum of 19°C. Coastal temperatures may differ, and exposed beaches will feel breezier.
Out And About
Keep sun protection and water handy, even when high cloud takes the edge off the sunshine. If you are heading into Tenerife’s mountains, check the local forecast before setting off and take a light waterproof.
At the beach, follow the flags and lifeguards’ instructions, as sea conditions can vary considerably between sheltered bays and exposed stretches of coast.
