New bus routes in Adeje carry over 10,000 passengers in just five weeks

Two new municipal bus routes in Adeje have recorded more than 10,000 passenger journeys in their first five weeks of operation, with the service connecting Adeje town centre and La Caleta proving particularly popular.

According to figures released by Adeje Council, the two routes carried a combined 10,153 passenger journeys between 17th August and 23rd September, demonstrating demand for improved public transport connections across the municipality.

The services, operated through by TITSA, were introduced on 17th August to improve accessibility for residents, workers and visitors, particularly in areas with limited existing public transport connections.

La Caleta route accounts for almost 90% of passengers

Route 448, connecting Adeje town centre with La Caleta, accounted for the vast majority of journeys during the initial five-week period.

The service recorded 9,105 passenger journeys, representing approximately 90% of the total across both new routes.

Meanwhile, Route 449, which connects Adeje with several rural communities, recorded 1,048 journeys.

The figures highlight the demand for improved connections between the municipality's residential areas and its coastal tourist destinations, where thousands of people work in hotels, restaurants and other businesses.

Earlier departures to help students

Following feedback from passengers, Adeje Council has already introduced improvements to the services.

One of the most significant changes affects Route 448, where the first departure from La Caleta has been brought forward from 7:55am to 7:20am.

The adjustment is designed to help students travelling to educational centres arrive on time, while also providing an earlier transport option for other passengers.

The council says the change forms part of its commitment to adapting the new routes to the needs of the people using them.

Three new stops added to rural route

Improvements have also been introduced on Route 449, which serves rural areas of Adeje.

Three additional bus stops have been added to improve accessibility for residents living in communities that have historically had fewer public transport options.

The changes aim to make every day journeys easier for people travelling to work, education, appointments and other essential services.

Improving public transport in southern Tenerife

The introduction of the two routes forms part of Adeje's wider efforts to improve mobility and reduce reliance on private vehicles.

Traffic congestion remains a major issue across southern Tenerife, particularly along the TF-1 motorway and roads connecting the island's busiest tourist resorts.

Improving local bus connections offers residents and visitors an alternative to travelling by car, particularly for shorter journeys between residential neighbourhoods and employment centres.

The council will continue monitoring passenger demand and the operation of both routes as it assesses whether further adjustments are needed.
