The National Police have arrested two men, aged 47 and 48, in Costa Teguise (Lanzarote) after discovering 20 kilos of cocaine hidden inside a campervan parked next to a school.

The incident occurred on 2nd September, when school staff raised the alarm after noticing the suspicious behaviour of the vehicle’s occupants. With classes about to resume, the presence of the motorhome in the school’s car park caused concern.

Suspicious activity confirmed

According to the Canary Islands Police Headquarters, plainclothes officers observed one of the suspects, who was already known to police for previous drug trafficking offences, regularly visiting the motorhome to deliver bags and rucksacks to the man staying inside.

With mounting evidence, investigators requested judicial authorisation to search both the motorhome and the home of one of the suspects.

Cash and cocaine seized

During the searches, officers uncovered more than €116,000 in cash at the property, while the motorhome contained 20 kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of over €700,000.

The two men were taken into custody and appeared before a judge, who ordered their immediate imprisonment without bail while the case continues to be investigated.
