Residents across the Canary Islands will have another opportunity to claim up to €450 towards replacing old household appliances when the second round of the regional appliance replacement scheme opens on 1st October.

The programme offers vouchers worth €250 to eligible applicants, rising to €450 for people classed as financially vulnerable. The money is intended to help households replace older appliances with more energy-efficient models, reducing electricity consumption and household bills.

Demand during the first phase has been high, with 24,012 people registering for the scheme. So far, 2,751 vouchers worth a combined €449,770 have been approved.

A further 1,736 applications, representing €436,980 in potential funding, are still awaiting a decision following the first week of the programme.

The second batch of vouchers will become available on 1st October, when the remaining funding will be released. A total of €1.6 million has been allocated specifically for vouchers, divided equally between the two Canary Islands provinces and distributed across the islands.

The scheme currently has 213 participating retailers across the archipelago. Almost 1,000 purchases using the vouchers were completed during the first phase.

The initiative is funded by the Canary Islands Government and managed by the regional business organisations Femete and Femepa. Its aim is to encourage households to replace inefficient appliances while also supporting local retailers.

Regional officials say replacing older appliances with newer, more efficient models can reduce household energy use and electricity costs while lowering their environmental impact.

Anyone interested in applying for the next round should prepare ahead of the 1st October opening, as the strong response to the first phase suggests demand could again be high. Funding will remain available until the €1.6 million allocated to the voucher scheme has been exhausted.
