A human trafficking network linked to forced prostitution, sexual exploitation, and drug trafficking has been dismantled in Playa Las Americas in the south of Tenerife, following a major police operation.
Five people have been arrested after officers from the National Police raided three residential properties and three business premises.
Among those detained are the partner of the alleged ringleader, a woman suspected of recruiting victims abroad, and several others involved in running the night-time venues where the activities were taking place.
Police say 14 women were identified as victims of sexual exploitation, with six of them officially confirmed as trafficking victims. All of the women have been offered specialist support services to help them recover from their ordeal.
During the raids, officers seized nearly €2,000 in cash, pepper spray, a taser, an electric stun gun, and documents linked to the services the women were forced to provide.
The operation follows an in-depth investigation by police into the criminal gang’s activities, which included illegal immigration and forced prostitution.
The National Police have urged the public to come forward with any information about human trafficking. Reports can be made anonymously by calling 900 10 50 90 or by emailing trata@policia.es. All tip-offs will be handled in strict confidence by specialist officers.
