Manhunt results in arrest of suspect wanted for sexual abuse in Tenerife

The National Police in Tenerife have arrested a 63-year-old man in La Matanza who had been the subject of a search warrant issued by a court in La Orotava for charges of alleged sexual abuse.

For the past two months, investigators have been scouring municipal records, police databases, and family contacts to locate the suspect, but their efforts had repeatedly come up empty. The breakthrough came when they traced the vehicle he was using, leading them to La Matanza, where he was caring for an elderly person.

Upon arriving in the area, officers found the man outside the elderly person’s home, sitting in the vehicle. His physical appearance closely matched the description of the wanted individual.

However, when officers attempted to identify him, the man initially claimed he had no identification and provided false information multiple times. Eventually, he admitted his true identity.

He also confessed that two years prior, he had fled to Venezuela to avoid serving a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence and had returned to Tenerife after the statute of limitations on the charge expired. Despite this, he was later apprehended by Interpol.

The arrest marks the end of a determined search by the Canary Islands Police, ensuring the suspect now faces justice.
