A man has been convicted after offering laser rejuvenation treatments and hyaluronic acid injections in a beauty salon in Fuerteventura without the required medical qualifications. He has received a three-month prison sentence for attempted professional impersonation.
The case was brought before the Criminal Court in Puerto del Rosario after the Las Palmas Medical Association raised the alarm in 2021, reporting that a beauty centre in Caleta de Fuste was advertising medical aesthetic procedures that legally require a qualified doctor.
According to the Association, their quick intervention meant the man never carried out the treatments, preventing potentially serious risks to public health. Because the procedures were never performed, the offence was considered attempted rather than completed.
The Medical Association thanked members of the public for reporting the suspicious advertisement, reminding residents and visitors that only registered doctors are authorised to perform medical aesthetic treatments such as injectables and laser rejuvenation.
They also urged people to verify credentials through the Official Medical Register and to ensure that any clinic offering aesthetic medicine is properly licensed by the Canary Islands Health Authority.
