A 62-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record has been arrested in Fuerteventura for drug trafficking after fleeing from police and being found with nearly 60 kilograms of hashish resin in his car. The man attempted to escape before officers could identify him, leading to a manhunt and eventual capture.
The incident occurred when National Police officers on patrol noticed the suspect acting nervously in his car. As they began verifying his identity, the man abruptly drove away and escaped
Following the escape, police launched an investigation to track down the fugitive, eventually locating his vehicle at a port in the north of Fuerteventura, where he was spotted and arrested after putting up significant resistance.
Upon searching the vehicle, the officers discovered three packages containing 599 rectangular pieces of brown resinous material, identified as hashish pollen, each labelled with a picture of ‘Popeye’ on them. In total, 59.9 kilograms of hashish and €675 in cash were confiscated.
The man was arrested for drug trafficking and, after processing, was remanded in custody by the judicial authorities awaiting trial.
