A 67-year-old Hungarian man, wanted in his home country for charges of aggravated fraud, has been arrested by the National Police in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria.
The arrest was made following a European Arrest Warrant issued by the Hungarian authorities.
The Canary Islands’ High Command of the National Police reported that the investigation began in May after receiving information from the Fugitive Group of the General Commissariat of the Judicial Police. The case involved close coordination between local law enforcement and international agencies to track the suspect.
Arrest Operation and Legal Proceedings
After months of investigation, the fugitive was successfully located, identified, and arrested on 19th December. Following his detention, the police concluded the necessary legal procedures, and the man was handed over to the competent judicial authority.
The court has initiated the process of extradition, coordinating with the Hungarian authorities to transfer the suspect for prosecution.
Cooperation in International Justice
The arrest highlights the effectiveness of international cooperation under the European Arrest Warrant framework. This mechanism allows for streamlined legal procedures across member states, ensuring that individuals accused of serious crimes cannot evade justice by crossing borders.
The swift action by the National Police highlights Spain’s commitment to upholding the law and supporting international efforts to combat fraud and other transnational crimes.
