EasyJet flight to the Canary Islands forced to land after smoke detected in cabin

An EasyJet flight bound for Fuerteventura with 203 passengers on board was forced to make an emergency return this morning (Saturday) after smoke was detected inside the aircraft shortly after take-off.

The aircraft, an Airbus A321, had departed from Milan at 7:53am local time (5:53 GMT), but the flight crew declared an onboard emergency shortly after due to the presence of smoke in the cabin.

As a safety precaution, the plane returned to Malpensa, where it landed safely and was met and escorted along the runway by emergency fire service vehicles.

According to local media reports, no injuries were reported and all passengers disembarked safely once the aircraft had landed. The plane was subsequently taken to a hangar for thorough inspection and testing to determine the cause of the smoke, which remains unknown at this time.

The airline and aviation authorities have not released further details as the investigation continues.
