Drunk driver with expired licence clocked doing 150km/h in Tenerife

A man has been reported by the General Corps of the Canary Police for a series of offences, including drunk driving, driving with an expired license, and endangering the lives of two children, after being stopped doing more than 150 km/h in Tenerife.

The incident took place on Wednesday (July 31st), on the TF-5 motorway in the direction of Puerto de la Cruz. The vehicle was intercepted by the Canary Police after it was observed speeding, and then the other offences came to light.

Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver tested positive for alcohol. Further inspection, aided by the Canine Unit, revealed the presence of illegal substances, including hashish and cocaine. Due to the couple's lack of cooperation, additional measures were taken to ensure a thorough search.

In accordance with the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, the Canary Police took protective measures for the children involved. The driver was subsequently charged with multiple offences, including driving under the influence, driving without a valid license, and child endangerment.

Details of the incident:

After stopping the vehicle and identifying the driver, police found that:

  - He was driving with an expired license.

  - He had exceeded the speed limit of 120km/h, travelling at over 150 km/h.

  - He was driving under the influence of alcohol after failing a breathalyser test.

  - There were two young children in the car without proper safety measures; one of the children was not in a suitable child restraint system.

  - The vehicle contained a young couple, each with a child. One child, aged two, was handed over to their mother, who arrived on the scene when contacted. The other child, aged three, was placed in a protection centre due to a lack of available family members to take custody.
