Dog killed in a fire at the Pasito Blanco campsite

There was a fire at the Pasito Blanco campsite at around 1:00pm yesterday afternoon (Tuesday), with thick black smoke that could be seen for several miles, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre for the Canary Islands (CECOES).

They received several alerts from people across the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana in the south of Gran Canaria, and mobilised the Fire Brigade, the Local Police, the National Police, and an ambulance to the campsite to attend to the blaze.

After successfully distinguishing the fire, firefighters reported that it had affected two static vans at the campsite, one whose roof had collapsed and another that had two rooms completely burned out. There was also superficial damage to a third static van, but they put it out before it caused more damage.

CECOES have confirmed that there were no human injuries, but there was one victim, a dog found burned to death which was trapped inside one of the properties.

The police have opened an investigation into the cause of the fire, and the inhabitants of the two houses have chosen to move in with relatives.
