The Guardia Civil has recovered the body of a man from the Inagua Nature Reserve, a remote and difficult-to-access area in the municipality of La Aldea de San Nicolás, in Gran Canaria. His body was found yesterday (Thursday) in an area where he had been rock climbing.
According to police sources, the recovery operation involved personnel from both Gran Canaria and the specialised mountain rescue team from Tenerife.
Initial efforts to retrieve the body were hampered by the challenging terrain, and even a Guardia Civil helicopter attempted to reach the location but was unable to complete the rescue.
In response, the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Group (GES) was called in, deploying one of its helicopters equipped with a winch. This allowed the specialised rescue team to finally retrieve the climber's body.
The body was transported to the nearest helipad, where it will undergo an official inspection, pending a judge’s authorisation to remove it for official identification and an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Following this, the Guardia Civil will launch an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the climber’s death.
